By the end of this course, these are some of the main items you will have the working knowledge of creating with Rhino 3D:
​
-A Plan
-A 3D model- Staircase set with safe (VFX ready)
-A 3D presentation of the set model (rendering with Twinmotion)
-Working drawings and blue prints
​
Prerequisites:
​
-General knowledge or interest in Architecture and Set Design
-General knowledge and interest in carpentry, building, and construction
-Some knowledge of materials in construction
-Eagerness to learn a powerful 3D tool
​
Software:
​
-For Windows / Mac (I will be covering material on a windows interface. There may be slight differences with a Mac in keyboard commands, especially to do with the function keys which should be very manageable to translate between both systems.)
-A copy of Rhino 5,6 or 7 (You can sign up for a trial for 3 months)

-Register and download Twinmotion on Epic Games (for Rendering)

Hardware:
​
-Computer and 3-button mouse (Left / Scroll/ Right) – Don’t attempt to use a Touchpad, they don’t work very well!
-A 3D mouse is nice but not necessary.

This course will cater to the beginner and intermediate levels with an overall scope of the duties involved in the role of a set designer. I will be sharing many of my hands-on experiences as a set designer. The modules will increase your knowledge of Rhino and Set design by applying only the tools needed in the Rhino program.

Course outline:
Module1 (Estimated 3 hrs)
- Start with 2D Rhino tools
-Assignment: Creating a simple 2D plan
Module 2 (Estimated 3 hrs)
- Continuing with 2D tools
-Assignment: Creating a Tech Pak plan
​
Module 3 (Estimated 3 hrs)
-Rhino 3D tools and processes using manipulation and move tools in operations
Assignment: Complete a 3D puzzle
​
Module 4 (Estimated 8 hrs)
-Learning further 3D tools to be able to practice and apply them to create a 3D model.
-Assignment: Working on a 3D set project
​
Module 5 (Estimated 8 hrs)
- Taking the project in Module 4 and rendering it for presentation
-Assignment: To complete a rendering of the Rhino set
​
Module 6/7 (Estimated 6 hrs)
-Rhino Page and layout tools for setting up drawings
-Assignment: Taking the Rhino model and setting it up on a sheet of paper with annotation and construction notes
Support:
There will be ongoing weekend Labs sessions (on a live video conference) for Participants to get help going through the modules.
